Installation notes for running Kea on Ubuntu 14.04 server

2015-02-20: The following applies to installing Kea 0.9.1-beta on Ubuntu 14.04 x64 server.

After installing plain Ubuntu 14.04 x64 server with all defaults, I downloaded and extracted Kea 0.9.1 beta:

$wget -nd
$tar zxvf kea-0.9.1-beta.tar.gz
$cd kea-0.9.1-beta

To compile Kea, a number of packages were needed:

$sudo apt-get install g++ libssl-dev liblog4cplus-dev libboost-dev libboost-system-dev make

In order to use MySQL as a lease (or host) database backend (optional) additional dependency may be needed:

$sudo apt-get install libmysqlclient-dev

In order to build Kea:


Additional steps required to build git version

# Needed only when building sources from git repository
$ sudo apt-get install autoconf libtool

# The following packages are required only if you want to generate documentation
# (this can be enabled with ./configure --enable-generate-docs)
$sudo apt-get install doxygen xsltproc docbook docbook-xsl elinks
