Description (last modified by shane)

Since #2128 is complete we get generic information on unknown systems.

We should say "isc-sysinfo does not know how to report for system %s yet, please mail <bind10-dev@…> to get this system added".

This is related to ticket #2085, although only loosely.

I think it can report at least some details for every system we currently support. I do agree it shouldn't have unknown for every field. See related #2128.

So, what now when #2128 is done? Should we just close it or still abort?

comment:5 Changed 7 years ago by shane

I still think we should abort. Running on an unknown system is always going to risk returning completely bogus answers, IMHO.

But, isn't some data, even if not surely correct, still better than none at all?

comment:7 Changed 7 years ago by jreed

I don't think we have any wrong answers. It does provide some useful information. Just incomplete. Maybe have it output at end to ask the user to submit a ticket about the system.

  • Summary changed from isc-sysinfo should bail rather than report empty values to isc-sysinfo should report unknown systems

Okay, I think Jeremy's suggestion is a good one. I'm changing the ticket to be that issue, and removing it from the next-sprint-proposed since it really isn't that critical anymore.
